Dentures in Kurri Kurri
Missing teeth affect your ability to eat, speak clearly, and smile confidently. Dentures are an affordable, removable solution that restores your tooth function and appearance. We work with our trusted prosthetist Jon Pride to create custom dentures that fit perfectly and look natural.
Types of Dentures
Full Dentures
A complete denture replaces all teeth in one or both jaws. It rests on the gum tissue and is held in place by suction and the muscles of your mouth. Full dentures are ideal if you’ve lost all your teeth.
Partial Dentures
A partial denture replaces some missing teeth while attaching to your remaining natural teeth using clasps or precision attachments. Partial dentures are less visible and easier to adjust to than full dentures.
The Denture Process
Consultation
We assess your mouth, discuss your needs, and explain whether a denture is the best option. We may recommend dental implants as an alternative if you’re a suitable candidate.
Impressions and Measurements
We take detailed impressions of your mouth and measure your bite. These impressions are sent to our prosthetist Jon Pride.
Denture Design
Jon creates your denture to match your facial features and natural tooth appearance. He considers colour, shape, and size to create a smile that looks like your natural teeth.
Try-In
You’ll come in for a try-in appointment where the denture (before final polishing) is tested for fit, bite, and appearance. We make adjustments if needed.
Final Fitting
Once polished and finalised, we fit your denture and make final adjustments. We teach you how to insert, remove, and care for it.
Follow-up Adjustments
Most patients need a few adjustment appointments over the first few weeks as they get used to their denture. These are usually quick and included in the cost.
Adjusting to Your New Denture
Your first few weeks with dentures will involve an adjustment period:
- Speaking — Your speech may sound different at first. Practice speaking and reading aloud. Your speech will normalise within a few weeks.
- Eating — Start with soft foods and gradually progress to harder foods. Chew slowly and evenly on both sides of your mouth.
- Comfort — Initial soreness is normal. We can adjust pressure areas. Most soreness resolves within 1-2 weeks.
- Retention — Dentures held by suction take time to stabilise as your mouth adjusts to them.
Give yourself at least 2-4 weeks to fully adjust to your dentures.
Care and Maintenance
Daily cleaning — Brush your dentures gently with a soft brush and denture paste. Remove food debris after meals.
Overnight soaking — Soak dentures in denture cleaner or water overnight. This keeps them moist and removes stains.
Careful handling — Handle dentures over a sink of water to avoid dropping them. Never use hot water, which can warp them.
Regular checkups — Visit us every 6-12 months for professional cleaning and to check fit.
Relines — Over time, your jaw shape changes and dentures become loose. We can reline them (adjust the inner surface) to improve fit.
Natural Teeth with Partial Dentures
If you have a partial denture, maintain your natural teeth with excellent brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups. Healthy natural teeth are essential for the success and longevity of your partial denture.
Dentures vs. Dental Implants
While dentures are affordable and effective, dental implants offer advantages for suitable candidates:
- Implants — Fixed in your mouth, no daily removal, preserve bone, very natural feel
- Dentures — Removable, more affordable, easier to adjust if your mouth changes
We can discuss which option suits your situation, budget, and preferences.
